I recently presented at the Association for Small Business Development Center Conference
in New Orleans on how to build your SBDC with social media. I spoke on the same topic last year in San Diego during a power outage. Luckily this year I had lights and was able to use my slides. The reason I wanted to do this was for two reasons. I know the value of social media to reach out to people that need business help and I know that to many SBDCs don't take advantage of the power of social. The SBDC are probably the best kept secret as far as a source of assistance to small business owners (that is not a good thing). The funny thing to me is that many SBDC advisors are front and center at the Chamber After Hours but they don't network on-line. I am all about face to face networking but it has limited reach. Through proper use of social media and digital tools the SBDC can find people that really need their services. I know it works because it works for us at the Ohio SBDC
. I like to say "Word of mouth is only a click away". So if you are an SBDC be sure you take a look at your community, your customers and their needs and speak to them about how you can help them be more successful.
Here are the slides from the presentation. Hopefully the SBDC will no longer be a secret but the recognized experts in business development and job creation that they truly are.
